Mercedes-Benz CLA 4-door coupe is targeted at younger drivers

Mercedes-Benz has said that the second-generation CLA coupé, revealed at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, will offer the sportiest driving dynamics of its new wave of compact cars.

The new CLA's body is almost 2 inches wider and longer than its predecessor, though the rear-seat leg room is almost identical to the outgoing model, which was already cramped.

It has grown in size, which has resulted in more cabin space.

This sportier CLA offers less headroom than the hatch due to a swoopy roof which dips forcefully from the C-pillars, ending at a slimmer boot that features an altered light cluster design.

With regards to styling, the new CLA bears a strong resemblance to the outgoing model, as it still features frameless windows and a sloping rear end, but the auto gets new headlights as well as a new grille.

In any case, the second-generation CLA isn't as radical a departure from the norm as it largely follows the same formula as its popular (particularly in the USA) predecessor - retaining its sleek four-door coupe profile thanks to its low and swoopy roofline.

You can find out more information about the new 2019 Mercedes CLA Coupe over at the Mercedes Benz website. The carmaker also claims that the system no longer gets confused by other passengers talking and only responds to the commands of the last person to say the activation phrase.

The optional Interior Assistant feature adds gesture controls, allowing the infotainment center to be operated by an occupant's motions alone, rather than by interaction with a control. Active adaptive damping will also be on the options list to switch between various suspension modes. Under the hood of the CLA 250 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Alongside the new tech Mercedes-Benz offers in the form of MBUX are a variety of additional packages. The MBUX now gets an Interior Assist function, which operates via gesture control.

Come May however, the engine range for the all-new CLA will broaden to include several gas-powered turbo fours and diesel-powered mills. Once launched, the new CLA will continue its rivalry with the Audi A3 in the Indian market. The current model starts at $34,095, and we expect the new one will be at least as much, and probably a little more, and it'll be above the A-Class (which hasn't been priced yet, either).
