Hotstar pulls down Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul's Koffee With Karan episode

Hardik Pandya’s Father Comes to His Defence Following Koffee With Karan 6 Controversy

After Hardik Pandya came under fire from the Board of Control for Cricket in India or the BCCI for his sexist remarks on talk show Koffee With Karan, the Internet pulled out an old video of actor Ranveer Singh, now among the top crop of actors, passing sexist remarks on the same show several years ago. Following a backlash, the episode has now being removed from Hotstar, the online platform on which the show is streamed, and Pandya has apologised. The incident has subsequently thrown their selection for the upcoming one-day global (ODI) series against Australia into question with the Indian cricketing body, the BCCI, yet to decide on the two-match ban recommended by Vinod Rai, the chairman of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) that oversees such matters.

In the episode, which was aired on January 6, Hardik Pandya made remarks that were sexist, misogynist and racist.

CoA member, Diana Edulji said, "It will be imperative that the players (Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul) be put under suspension till a further course of action is decided for this misconduct as was done in the case of CEO when he was sent on leave in the sexual harassment matter".

He also shared that he openly identifies the women he sleeps with to his parents: "At a party my parents asked me acha tera wala (women) kaun sa hai (Which are your women)?" The Indian cricketers also had to face the rage of the BCCI who issued them show cause notices for their derogatory comments made on women in the show.

Later, when Johan asked him why he doesn't ask for the names of women at nightclubs since he has trouble remembering them, Pandya replied: "I like to watch and observe how they move".

"Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show".

"The two concerned players have felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude of what's happened". In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments. As for Rahul, considering that the cricketer didn't make any indecent remarks, it is being said that he may be left with just a warning. "We are still waiting for a decision to be made".
