Earn an Apple Watch Through Aetna's New Wellness Program

Aetna's Attain for Apple Watch benefits health — and privacy

Attain focuses on the larger picture of a user's health, not just the scale.

The app - christened "Attain" - is yet another example of an insurer pursuing a creative means to keep their members healthy, out of hospitals and safely at home, especially as they age and develop more complex medical needs.

Attain also invests in long-term health.

They also won't be limited to simple step tracking - Aetna says they'll also include fitness activities such as yoga and swimming. This year, MA have more flexibility in offering nontraditional benefits to help improve the health of their members. Challenges may include getting more sleep, increasing mindfulness and improving nutrition.

Health insurance provider Aetna, in collaboration with tech giant Apple, created a new well-being app called Attain. Created in collaboration with a team of doctors, the recommendations are based on clinical guidelines.

Attain participants can use the app to set personalized weekly activity goals, take part in weekly challenges, and receive tailored health notifications, such as medication refill reminders or suggestions to get a flu shot. The more users exercise, engage in healthy activity, and get their hearts pumping, the more rewards they earn through the app.

Apple and Aetna (aet) have been working on the app together since 2016, according to CNBC, which earlier reported on the software.

In order to join the program, you'll obviously need to be an Aetna member and own an Apple Watch Series 1 or later along with an iPhone 5S or later.

"You don't need to be a personal trainer or work out several hours a day to be healthier", Lotvin said. "We're designing Attain to be personalized and clinically relevant to where each individual is in their health journey". Apple plans to use contributed data to fuel machine learning algorithms that can enhance the personalization of the experience and fuel new features in the future. "Every day, we receive emails and letters from people all over the world who have found great benefit by incorporating Apple Watch into their lives and daily routines", said Jeff Williams, Apple's COO. "As we learn over time, the goal is to make more customized recommendations that will help members accomplish their goals and live healthier lives". But it will be the first mashup between two health industry titans. Information from this program will not be used for underwriting, premium or coverage decisions. Both Aetna's and John Hancock's wellness incentive programs are based on a rewards program developed by wellness and insurance company Vitality Group.

If you already have an Apple Watch you can use your rewards towards things like Amazon gift cards or donations to charities. The app officially launches in the spring and members can sign up at AttainbyAetna.com.
