Saif Nervous to Watch Sara in Kedarnath, Despite Kareena’s Request

Feature

Kedarnath, starring Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput, is a love story that is set against the 2013 devastating floods that nearly destroyed the shrine-town.

The district magistrates of Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar on Thursday imposed a ban on the movie; however the state government has not announced an official ban as yet.

Earlier, Ajendra Ajay, a state BJP leader demanded that the film should be banned.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor of Kai Po Che fame, Kedarnath is a love story of a Hindu tourist played by Sara and a Muslim porter (pithoo) played by Sushant, who takes her on the 14 kilometre-long pilgrimage from Gauri Kund to the shrine of Lord Shiva. The movie, set in the backdrop of the June 2013 natural tragedy that killed thousands of pilgrims in the temple town of Kedarnath, was released countrywide on 7 December.

Uttarakhand tourism minister Satpal Maharaj said that while the state government is committed to promoting Uttarakhand as a shooting destination, it also wants to honour the sentiments of people who have faith in Lord Kedarnath. "State shall ensure law and order is maintained".

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat chaired a meeting on Thursday evening after a committee headed by Maharaj submitted a report and decided not to officially ban the movie, reported Outlook.

However, it left the decision to the district magistrates to allow or ban the screening of the movie depending on the situation in their respective areas.

According to Hindustan Times, the Uttarakhand High Court refused to interfere in the matter, rejecting a PIL seeking a ban on the film.

With the latest orders by the DMs, it would mean that the film will not release now in state capital Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Almora and Udhamsinghnagar.
