Game studio Obsidian announced The Outer Worlds at The Game Awards tonight, with a two-minute trailer showcasing the game's setting (space!) and tone (funny!).

The new game is still very much a secret, with the developers only choosing, so far, to reveal two retro advertisements for fake products. In this area of space, corporations have taken control and rule over various planets.

"The Outer Worlds is a new single-player sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division". Your character awakens from hibernation, from there, you'll explore the colony, get to know the settlers, resolve conflicts and try to overcome the various threats coming your way. By the trailer's tone, you can tell The Outer Worlds isn't taking itself too seriously: there's poppy music, a mad scientist, and already some of the silliness Fallout designer Tim Cain is known for.

KitGuru Says: The Outer Worlds isn't quite what I expected, but the humour hooked me in and the story sounds darker than the colourful aesthetic would have us believe. It's now slated to come to PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

"For example, if you continuously find yourself getting into scraps with Raptidons - "vicious space dogs", as PC Gamer describes them - you'll get a pop-up allowing you to take the "Raptiphobia" perk".

Geoff Keighley and Obsidian teased the game's announcement last week with the tagline, "Worlds Will Change".
