The crossover also adds Nissan Safety Shield 360, a package of active-safety tech comprising pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams and reverse automatic braking.

That said, Dan Monhke, senior VP of sales and marketing for Nissan in the US, was adamant that the company remains committed to its sedans.

Further along the range, the Murano's S, SV and SL trim variants come specified with either metallic or light wood trim.

Outside, the Murano receives a revised V-motion grille and redesigned, crisper LED front and rear lights, as well as LED fog lights.

Inside, the Murano doesn't change much but does get some luxury-oriented features like semi-aniline leather seats with diamond quilted panels and contrasting piping on the seat and armrests.

Like its sedan-bodied stablemate, the new Murano gets a range of cosmetic, technology and trim upgrades to give it a more upmarket look and feel, along with the wider availability of Nissan's Safety Shield 360 driver assistance technologies.

A new range-topping Platinum Reserve option package dresses the automaker's full-size sedan up with pleated semi-aniline leather upholstery cribbed from the company's GT-R sports auto. The 2019 Maxima is scheduled to arrive in Nissan showrooms next month.

The facelifted SUV continues to be powered the firm's 3.5 litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine, producing 263 PS and 325 Nm of torque here in the 2019 Murano, channeled to an Xtronic continuously variable transmission and an optional all-wheel drive system. Sunset Drift Chromaflair, Mocha Almond Pearl and Deep Blue Pearl are the new body colours.

Safety equipment on the 2019 Murano now includes Rear Door Alert and Intelligent Driver Alertness systems, plus standard 2nd row supplemental side air bags and front passenger supplemental knee air bag. The Maxima has a sporty image, but developed on the same front-drive platform as the previous Teana/Altima.

Also standard on all grade levels is NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, with 8.0-inch color display with multi-touch control. The SR Premium Package, meanwhile, gains a dual panoramic sunroof.
