LA Auto Show: 2020 Hyundai Palisade Rocks LA

Hyundai fortifies top of light truck lineup with 2020 Palisade

Hyundai has introduced its new flagship premium three-row Palisade SUV to global media at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Serving as the Korean brand's new SUV flagship, the Palisade will sit above the Santa Fe in Hyundai's line-up and go up against the likes of the Mazda CX-9 and the Toyota Highlander (Kluger) in the States.

The Palisade is offered with an intercom system that allows the driver to communicate with the second- or third-row passengers via the audio system-a helpful trick most associated with minivans.

The styling was led by SangYup Lee, Hyundai Motor's vice president of design since 2016, who has said he wants to add an emotional touch to Hyundai products through designs that are just as "sexy" as Alfa Romeo.

With an 185mm ground clearance the Santa Fe is capable of some rough-terrain work, especially so in the AWD model which uses Hyundai's HTRAC system to electronically vary drive between the front and rear wheels, and controls braking between the left and right wheels.

Hyundai claims a 0.33 coefficient of drag for the Palisade, thanks to its raked A-pillar angle, "rear spoiler side garnish", an extended internal air guide for the "optimised" front cooling area, aero underbody panels, and aero deflectors on the rear wheels.

The instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch digital display, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen handling navigation and infotainment duties. All three rows of seats feature multiple USB ports to keep everyone's devices fully charged, while there's also a Qi wireless charging mat for compatible devices.

Fabric seats are offered as standard, and the more premium quilted Nappa leather is optional. Second-row captain's chairs are also available with ventilated seating surfaces. System of communication with passengers back row equipped with Rear mode Sleep Mode when sound is not transmitted to the rear speakers. For more convenience, the third row offers power-folding/unfolding and reclining seats. "Customers can feel serenity and comfort in the Palisades". It comes with a 3.8-liter gasoline engine or 2.2-liter diesel engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The safe exit assist uses the Palisade's radar to detect cars approaching from the rear and alerts passengers looking to exit the vehicle. The system is created to prevent children and pets from being forgotten in the auto, but it also helps in case children accidentally lock themselves in. These should include Blind-Sport Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, High Beam Assist, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, all found within the Hyundai SmartSense suite of driver assistance systems.
