Instagram's 'Close Friends' feature lets you keep Stories private

The Instagram logo is displayed within the opened app on an iPhone

Which means that if you don't see these indicators for a certain friend, that person has not deemed you worthy of Close Friendhood.

The new feature will appear on the user's profile in the side menu enables Instagram's more than one billion users. On the app, Stories can be customized around a specific event or location, like a concert. Instagram will suggest those you interact with the most.

"Instagram Stories has become the place to express yourself and share everyday moments, but our community has grown and sometimes what you want to share isn't for everyone". It starts rolling out to users Friday.

If a user adds you to their friend list, you'll see a green ring around their Story ring, same with you adding a story.

Facebook has been focusing on Instagram, its fastest-growing revenue generator, as the social networking website's core platform has come under fire from regulators.

It's another indication Instagram is not slowing down in the wake of longtime company executive Adam Mosseri taking over after the abrupt departure of Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in October.

Snapchat, Facebook and WhatsApp also have stories features. On the upside, though, you might be able to finally ditch that finsta account.

Instagram also plans to significantly boost the number of verified accounts for public figures, celebrities, and global brands.

Instagram added Stories to its platform in 2016 and usage has taken off tremendously with 400 million people now using the feature daily.
