The service dog was assigned to former Prez Bush back in June, and Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath says Sully - trained by the nonprofit group America's VetDogs - will be reassigned now. Bush died at home in Houston on Friday at age 94. Mayor Sylvester Turner has urged attendees to wear colorful socks, a nod to the former president's fondness for sporting loud socks often emblazoned with unusual patterns during public events.

"The 41st President will be carried to his final rest wearing socks that pay tribute to his lifetime of service, starting as an 18 year-old naval aviator in war". An invitation-only funeral service is set for Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral.

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 7:45 p.m. until Thursday, Dec. 6, 7 a.m. His body will be transported by motorcade to St. Martin's Episcopal Church, where he and his wife regularly worshipped.

President Donald Trump, who ordered federal offices closed for a national day of mourning on Wednesday, is to attend with first lady Melania Trump and other high-ranking officials.

CNN reported that Sully would travel with the casket to Washington, D.C., where several days of remembrance ceremonies are being held.

Former President George H.W. Bush and his family are being flown from Houston, Texas on Special Air Mission 41 to the nation's capital; chief congressional correspondent Mike Emanuel reports.

Bush will then be returned to Houston for burial Thursday at his presidential library at Texas A&M University.

"The 41st president died late Friday at his Houston home at age 94".

Millie was famously referenced during the 1992 presidential campaign, when Bush said, of Bill Clinton and Al Gore, "My dog Millie knows more about foreign affairs than these two bozos".
