'SNL' brings on congressman-elect to get apology from Pete Davidson

Dan Crenshaw, now a congressman-elect from Texas, "deserves all the respect in the world".

Last week on SNL's Weekend Update, Davidson had mocked Crenshaw's eyepatch, which he wears due to an injury he sustained in an I.E.D. explosion while serving in Afghanistan.

Crenshaw accepted Davidson's apology, and thanked him for "making a Republican look good".

Then, to even the score and show he has a sense of humor about the whole thing, Crenshaw poked fun at a number of Davidson photos calling him a troll doll with a tapeworm and comparing him to Martin Short in Santa Clause 3.

"Oh do you know her?" asked Crenshaw. After a slight hesitation, Crenshaw played along.

Weekend Update: Pete Davidson Apologizes to Lt. Com. "He looks like if the meth from Breaking Bad was a person", he joked of the SNL star's bleached-hair visage.

When the jokes settled, Dan used the moment to urge Americans to come together and forgive.

He apologized directly to Crenshaw, who said they were good and the apology was accepted.

"We can remember what brings us together as a country and still see the good in each other", Crenshaw said.

"This is Veterans Day weekend". The congressman-elect finished the segment with a honest request that Americans respect each other on Veterans Day and shook hands with Davidson as both said "never forget" to one another. Maybe say, "Thanks for your service.' But I would actually encourage you to say something else; tell a veteran, 'Never forget, '" he explained. "Tell a veteran, 'never forget'".

Crenshaw got serious at the end, encouraging civilians and veterans to connect and paying tribute to heroes like Davidson's father, a firefighter who died on 9/11. "So I'll just say, Pete, never forget".

Before that touching highlight happened, though, the episode's cold open went in on another political subject of interest for the week: the firing of long-embattled Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
