Saints signing Dez Bryant is all about the playoffs

Report Wide receiver Dez Bryant to sign with the Saints

Bryant spent the majority of his career in Dallas playing on the outside, though he played more snaps than usual in the slot previous year.

The 30-year-old Bryant and the Saints agreed to contract terms on Wednesday, and it remains unclear to what extent Bryant will play when New Orleans visits Cincinnati on Sunday.

Bryant's chance for revenge will come soon as the Saints will face the Cowboys in three weeks on FOX's Thursday Night Football on November 29. "So the great thing about a locker room, I think, is we take guys in and we say, 'Hey, what are you like now?'"

But his production had been slipping in recent years as he battled foot and knee injuries; he had 69 catches for 838 yards and 6 touchdowns in 16 games played last year.

New Orleans has proven no fewer than three times this year that the team is in win-now mode as Brees nears 40. He previously met with the Browns and Ravens.

By moving Bryant from the X-receiver position - the receiver who lines up on the line of scrimmage - the Saints will prevent teams from pressing him.

Bryant, a first-team All-Pro selection in 2014 and three-time Pro Bowler, hasn't played football since being released by the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason, following a slip in production the past two seasons.

New Orleans (7-1), which has won seven straight and leads the NFC South, didn't necessarily need another receiver.

Basically, Cowherd believes New Orleans saw the success Gordon has had since joining New England and decided it was worth rolling the dice on Bryant, another polarizing ex-Pro Bowl wide receiver with both baggage and upside. "Really happy for him and that opportunity", he said.

"Not at all. Ever since I got here, Dez was nothing but a help for me", Elliott said.

I'm guessing those in the Big Easy aren't going to like this.

New Orleans knew it couldn't go deep in the playoffs without shoring up their defense backfield, hence the trade for Apple ahead of the deadline two weeks ago.
