Michael Avenatti arrested for domestic violence

Police had responded to a domestic violence incident Tuesday and took a report, but Avenatti was taken into custody Wednesday, the official said.

He the legal representative of Stormy Daniels, an adult film star who had an alleged affair with Trump and is attempting to sue the President. Police said the report was filed just before midnight on Tuesday and Avenatti was arrested shortly afterward, in West Los Angeles.

Sources told TMZ Avenatti's wife's face is "swollen and bruised".

Cops showed up and escorted Avenatti into a corner of the apartment lobby and spoke with him for 5 to 10 minutes and then took him into custody.

We can probably say definitively this is the end of Avenatti's political aspirations.

This is not the first time that Avenatti's wife has mentioned abuse.

Police declined to provide any details about the victim, including the victim's relationship to Avenatti.

TMZ reported that the two had been sharing an apartment, but Avenatti had kicked the woman out after a break-up. "I never will strike a woman".

UPDATE 7:35 P.M. EST: TMZ has now changed its story, saying their initial sources were wrong about the identity of the woman.

But CNN reported Wednesday evening that the woman in the incident was not Mrs. Avenatti, her lawyer having told the network she hadn't seen her husband for three months.

The alleged domestic violence incident could dash Avenatti's prospects as a potential insurgent Democratic candidate and clash with the image he has presented of himself as an advocate for women, including Daniels in her clash with Trump and an accuser against recently confirmed Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
