Meet Xiaomi’s $29 AirPods Alternative, AirDots

Xiaomi Releases AirDots Wireless Earbuds With Bluetooth 5.0

While the Chinese tech company's AirDots are unlikely to match Apple's technology when it comes to sound quality, with a price tag of under $30, they may capture a sizable market.

Although they don't feature the long stem you find on Apple's earbuds, the design is relatively similar, with that white minimalist aesthetic that Apple accessories are so well known for. This includes a charging case similar to the AirPods where one can place their AirDots to be charged wirelessly. The price of the Xiaomi AirDots Youth Edition is 199 yuan, around 28 U.S. dollars in exchange, and will be offered for sale on the Chinese market on 11 November this year, but it will not be long before it reaches the rest of the countries.

It's unclear whether the AirDots will be available in global markets, but Chinese fans of Xiaomi will be able to preorder theirs on November 11th. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation from Xiaomi as to when its new products can be expected in the Indian or global markets. When taken out of the box, it will connect to the previously connected device automatically by turning itself on.

Xiaomi has claimed that by equipping these new earphones with Bluetooth 5.0, the single ear disconnections problem with wireless headsets has been solved to a greater extent. On the outside of the headphones is a sensor, which you can use to control playback and volume, call voice assistant, taking calls and so on. Bluetooth 5.0 also allows for clearer calls and faster connection to a smartphone. Apple also revealed previous year that it will release a wireless charging case for the AirPods, but the tech giant still hasn't given any details about its launch.

Xiaomi sports Bluetooth v5.0 on the Mi AirDots Youth Edition. It's priced at just CNY 199 (~Rs 2,100) in China and will go on sale starting November 11 through Xiaomi Mall, Xiaomi Youpin, Tmall, Jingdong, and Suning.
