Kevin Harvick advances to Playoff finale with authoritative win at Texas Featured

Kyle Busch Following the Blueprint to Homestead

"We've been working day after day to make speed", said Harvick, who won for the second time at Texas and the 45 time in his career, 17 most all-time.

The race victor and second driver to automatically advance to Homestead was Kevin Harvick.

Harvick escalated past pole sitter Ryan Blaney in overtime Sunday succeeding the third resuming in the concluding 35 laps, to triumph the Texas fall race in a successive year in a row and haul one of the four championships professing spots for the season finale in two weeks. "Today we earned our way in and we're going to race again next week and try to win another race and then see what we can do at Homestead", Harvick concluded.

Succeeding taking the inside on the first two restarts and concisely getting defeated in the lead after the second one, Harvick chose to commence from outside for the green-white-checkered end.

As a result, the only way by which Almirola's point total can possibly pass that of Truex Jr. - and even if this happens, it isn't guaranteed to do so - is if Almirola wins the race, at which point his point total will no longer matter for him anyway since he will have automatically clinched a berth in the Championship 4 because of the fact that wins automatically qualify drivers for the next round of the playoffs no matter which round is next.

"That last restart I knew I needed to pick the top", Harvick said. #22 Joey Logano didn't help his chances at Homestead much as he and #10 Aric Almirola had a run in during the race that could impact how Almirola races Logano at Homestead. He has 19 top fives to go with his 20 top 10s.

Kevin Harvick won for the 8th time and advanced to the Championship Four at Homestead. Truex the driver who is now on the bubble right above the Championship 4 cut line, as he trails Busch by three points. Blaney led seven laps before Harvick went under him and was again putting distance between them before Joey Gase's spin brought out the last of eight cautions.

When asked at Texas if everything was cool with Truex, or if his head would be on a swivel looking around, Logano said only time would tell.

Harvick was on the inside again for the next restart, before Blaney was able to get by him on the outside and into the lead.

"I'm telling you, God is testing us". "We nearly caught him the first restart up top and then I did on the second one". Aric Almirola (eighth Sunday) and Clint Bowyer (26, after contact with Denny Hamlin's Toyota on Lap 1) are both in must-win situations. "He motored around me".

"We got a little bit of luck on our side after that to be able to get back on the lead lap".

Defending Cup champion Martin Truex Jr., who had to start at the back of the field after an engine change, was fifth in the first stage, just ahead of Logano and Kyle Busch.

A caution with 38 laps to go created an interesting kink in the pit strategy of many who debated whether or not to pit for tires and fuel, that being the looming question mark throughout Sunday's race.

"He just continues to make things harder on himself", Almirola said.

"I think our team has been kind of that rock that sets the foundation at Stewart-Haas Racing", he said.

The only stress for Harvick was lane choice for the overtime. It gets you loose and it's a handful.
