India beat Pakistan to maintain 100% record

Harmanpreet Kaur

Following an impressive opening day win against twice runners-up New Zealand, India, who have yet to reach a WT20 final, struck in the first over when Ayesha Zafar was well caught low at wide slip by Veda Krishnamurthy.

Radha Yadav is just 18 years old but if you'd seen her bowling on Friday against New Zealand, you probably wouldn't believe it. Yadav was composed and disciplined as she brought stability to India's defence.

She was involved in a 134-run partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues (59) for the fourth-wicket which propelled India to a match-winning total.

This was also India's highest ever score at the World T20.

So much so that veteran Mithali Raj's services wasn't required during the Indian innings. "Yesterday I was having little bit back problem", Kaur said.

Preview: After a near flawless beginning, the Indian women's team will be overwhelming favourites against arch-rivals Pakistan in its second Group B encounter of the ICC World T20 on Sunday. Kaur, on her part, also observed that due to stomach cramps, she had to change her approach and take the aggressive route. But I guess watching the game before us today on the telly and watching Kaur just bomb them into the stands I think gave us a little bit of hope that the wicket was going to be pretty true, and that turned out to be the case. "Then I thought instead of running too much, if I could I get more big shots ... because you run too much, you get more cramps. Then I told Jemi (Jemimah Rodrigues), "if you give the strike to me, I can go for more big shots".

Harmanpreet, whose scintillating 171 against Australia in the World Cup semifinal previous year remains fresh in the memory, looked comfortable from the word go and, in the company of Jemimah, built the innings with consummate ease.

Opener Suzie Bates (67 off 50) got them off to a flyer but too many wickets fell at the other end with key players Sophie Devine (9) and captain Amy Satterthwaite (3) missing out.

Kaur meanwhile, felt that it was a good batting track where a set batters could score big.

"I knew it was a good batting track, if I settle down, I can get the runs, that's what I was thinking".
