Wozniacki swats aside Sevastova in Beijing

The second finalist of the tournament China Open in 2018, which is now taking place in Beijing, was Caroline Wozniacki.

Del Potro's defeat came as a shock for many, and was blamed for being a result of illness by the player, who had been suffering from a cold the past few days.

In the semi-finals, Wozniacki had defeated local tennis star Qiang Wang 6-1, 6-3 in straight games while in the quarter-finals she had got better of Katerina Siniakova from Czech.

Ex-first racket of the world Caroline Wozniacki became the champion of a major tournament in China category Premier Mandatory with a prize Fund of $8,285,274.

However, by winning the title, she will cut Simona Halep's lead at the top of the rankings to under 1000 points. "I'm just happy to have reached 30 today, I'm going to enjoy that", said Wozniacki.

Sevastova is set to play the final against the victor of the match between Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, the second seed and victor of the Australian Open this year, and wildcard Wang Qiang of China. I think after the second match I started feeling like I was hitting the ball well and I could see the ball really well. Sevastova, who has been managing a stomach muscle injury since the round of 16, broke back to give herself a chance to mount a comeback.

She sealed the win with the second of three match points on her own serve.

Sevastova, who has not beaten Wozniacki in five attempts, said was pleased with her performance this week despite missing out on a second title of the season.
