NY Giants: If Not Traded, Ereck Flowers Will Be Released On Tuesday

Should the Giants follow through on a Flowers departure, only one member from their 2015 draft class, safety Landon Collins would remain on the team.

Flowers struggled from the start of his career after an unexpected move to left tackle his rookie season prompted by an injury to Will Beatty.

The Ereck Flowers saga may finally be ready to wilt. His play was so poor NY signed former New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder to a four-year, $62 million contract as a free agent this spring.

The No. 9 overall pick in the 2015 National Football League draft out of Miami, Flowers was a head-scratching pick to fans and analysts alike at the time, and their confusion was proved well-founded once Flowers hit the field at the next level.

The Giants will return to action on Thursday night in a divisional showdown against the Philadelphia Eagle at home (8:20 p.m. ET, Fox/NFL Network/Amazon Prime).

ESPN initially reported the news of Flowers' imminent departure from the Giants, who benched him after two games as their starting right tackle in favor of 2017 undrafted free agent Chad Wheeler. "Even these last weeks, when you're told someone else is playing, he's done everything we've asked him to do". And Flowers' attitude was as problematic as his play. They played Spencer Pulley over Flowers as an extra tackle in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints.

The second-year pro out of USC said of his own play: "I can always be better". Watt but has given them physicality in the run game and more reliability from down-to-down.
