Mojang announces Minecraft: Dungeons, an action-adventure game set in the Minecraft universe

This means, among other things, you'll progress by gaining new weapons and items. Below is the trailer for Minecraft: Dungeons.

Mojang also announced some big new changes to regular Minecraft at MINECON Earth today.

Mojang has made an unexpected announcement - that it has been working on a new game, and is finally able to introduce it to the world.

Minecraft: Dungeons is aiming for a 2019 launch, and Mojang describes the game as a "passion project" from a "small and dedicated team in Stockholm, Sweden".

Village & Pillage update - villages will be getting a "massive update" and a new mob type called Pillagers. Villager designs will vary depending on the biome.

This interesting action-adventure game set in the Minecraft universe lets you fearless canyons, swamps, and mines while finding loot and killing nasty monsters. "Fight or flee through canyons, swamps and - of course - mines!" I am quite pleased with the little teaser for Minecraft: Dungeons and it seems like the kind of Minecraft experience I'll enjoy. The levels are said to be "action-packed, treasure-stuffed, [and] wildly varied". Although details about the game weren't announced, it is slated to arrive sometime in 2019. Additionally, villages will vary by biome aesthetically, and also suffer raids from evil pillagers.

Are you interested in playing Minecraft: Dungeons? You can grab Minecraft for Xbox One or Windows 10 PC for around $25.

Fortnite might be hogging the media spotlight these days, but Minecraft remains one of the world's most popular games, climbing up to 91 million active users across 154 million copies sold.
