The Mega Millions jackpot is now $654 million, just $2 million short of the lottery's record.

The jackpot has been growing since July, and this is now the second largest jackpot in the history of the lottery game. Powerball's jackpot also represents: There is a top prize of at least $345 million on Wednesday.

The last Mega Millions win occurred on July 24 when a group of 11 co-workers in California split a $543 million prize. There hasn't been a Mega Millions jackpot victor since it reached $543 million in July.

A couple from Sheridan, Arkansas claimed a $3 million Mega Millions prize Monday (Oct. 15) afternoon. It's $345 million, or $199 million in cash.

And if you prefer math to luck, here is an eye-opening disclaimer: The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 302,575,350 to 1.

That's the fourth largest lottery prize in US history.

Even though no one took home Friday's big prize, there were 2,651,183 winning tickets on the October 12 across all prize levels.

Some lucky Powerball players won in Mt. Juliet and Memphis, totaling $150,000 and $50,000 respectively from last night's drawing.

Ashley Eggen of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, won $1 million playing Mega Millions on Oct 9.
