Hillary Clinton: Bill's Affair With Monica Lewinsky Wasn't An Abuse of Power

"Monica Lewnisky was an adult, Monica Lewinsky did know the president was married", she said, "So I, she wasn't the one that had the affair, Bill Clinton had the affair".

Hillary Clinton has continued to stand by her husband Bill Clinton who was hit with fresh criticism after a senator said he should have resigned following his affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Back in March, a few months into the #MeToo movement of women coming forward with allegations of sexual misconduct, mostly against powerful men, Lewinsky wrote that she had been moved to tears and deeply empathized with the accusers. Was it an abuse of power? "No". Dokoupil asked. "No, no", Clinton replied. "But let me ask you this: Where's the investigation of the current incumbent, against whom numerous allegations have been made, and which he dismisses, denies, and ridicules?" she asked.

Hillary Clinton said, "No".

"There are people who look at the incidents of the 90s and they say a president of the United States can not have a consensual relationship with an intern - the power imbalance was too great", Dokoupil started. "Hillary isn't responsible for what her husband did, but she should be able to recognize it as an abuse of power".

Dokoupil pressed the point, arguing that such an affair can be seen as an abuse of power for the sheer imbalance of said power between the United States president and an intern.

"I have to say that what she just did is exactly what the Republicans do, they change the subject", said a frustrated Joy Behar on Monday's episode.

Clinton's remarks came after she wouldn't compare her husband's actions with Lewinsky with the accusations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Pressed on whether the relationship was an abuse of power, Clinton said: "No, no" and noted that Lewinsky "was an adult".

The House in 1999 voted to impeach Clinton of perjury and obstruction of its investigation into the affair.
