Eagles interested in acquiring Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell

Le’Veon Bell ending Steelers madness with return date

With just over a month to go before the NFL trade deadline, the Steelers are contacting teams and actively shopping Bell, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Plus, the 49ers historically haven't committed big dollars to running backs - and that's exactly what Bell wants, and why his holdout from the Steelers has stretched into Week 4 this season.

The Steelers' asking price - a second-round draft pick and a good player, according to Rapoport - certainly is high, especially given that they don't have much leverage. If Bell reports to the Steelers midway through this season, his transition tag salary for next season could be as low as $9.24 million.

CBS had reported earlier today that the Steelers would be interested in swapping Bell for Seahawks' star defensive back Earl Thomas.

The Steelers are hopeful of getting more than a third-round pick for Bell - they would get a late 2020 third-round pick as compensation for him leaving as a free-agent, in all likelihood - and would prefer to deal him to the NFC, sources said.

Anybody need a running back?

Bell would have to agree to a trade by signing his $14.54 million franchise tender with the Steelers and he can't be traded until he signs. The team could also attempt not to pay Bell his game-check during that period of time, with it up to the two sides to negotiate those terms, which could also further complicate any return to Pittsburgh.
