Victory puts Edmund temporarily 12th in the Race to London for the ATP Tour Finals.

Zverev picked up his 47th win of the season in particularly impressive fashion during second-round action at the Shanghai Masters on Wednesday, when he ended the hot streak of Beijing champion Nikoloz Basilashvili 7-5, 6-4.

Despite suffering from a cold, the fourth-seeded German produced a hard-fought win over Nicoloz Basilashvili - and he didn't hide his joy.

During the match, Zverev ran towards the front court and hit a backhand victor upon which he let off an intense roar and a fist pump celebration.

"I'm happy to have a tough match behind my back and now looking forward to what the tournament holds for me now".

"We played here past year and it was the place I got my first ATP win", Tsitsipas said.

Zverev eased past Alex De Minaur 6-1 6-4 to book that last-eight meeting with British hope Edmund.

"It wasn't easy to play for me today", said del Potro, who reached the China Open final last week.

"Obviously he's playing the best tennis of his life, winning in Beijing, and obviously he had a very good match yesterday, as well". I played a solid match.

He was the dominant figure on the court today as well, losing 13 points in nine service games and saving all five break points he faced in two different service games when he had to work hard to stay unbroken. "I'm looking forward to it".

Meanwhile Novak Djokovic earned a revenge win over Italy's Marco Cecchinato to enter the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals with an eventual 6-4 6-0 stroll.
