AM Nick wears it pink for Breast Cancer Now

The difficulty with having dense breasts is that it decreases the sensitivity of digital mammograms to detect cancer. This is in comparison to women with more fat seen on mammogram or fatty breasts. These women have a four to five-time greater risk of developing breast cancer than women with less dense breasts because breast cancer can be more hard to diagnose in these patients.

Breast cancer in younger women tends to be found in later stages and be more aggressive.

Breast density is a measurement of the relative amounts of fibrous, glandular and fatty tissue within the breast.

Dr Daniel Asare, Chief Executive Officer (KBTH), said breast, though admirable, it is also a seat of disease that could kill adding regular screening, early detection and early treatment are the sure ways to demystify the fear surrounding the disease.

She says, like me, if you had cancer before age 50 or many of your family members have had cancer, you should talk to your primary care doctor about genetic testing. "Almost 100 percent of our patients at Advocate Lutheran General and 65 percent of patients systemwide receive 3D screening mammograms, which make cancers easier to diagnose, and at early stages, in women of all breast densities".

For those who have not been diagnosed but have a family history, Gore counsels them to make sure they're ready to learn the information in their DNA.

It makes sense that the issue of breast cancer would be a big cause for fundraising for women's programs: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women.

Physical activity has also been associated with reduced breast cancer risk in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women.

"There's no better feeling than knowing our restaurants, our people, and our products are making a difference in the lives of others", said Sam Covelli, owner/operator of Covelli Enterprises.

Compare that to women without the mutation who have only a 12 percent lifetime risk.

You can contact TMH if you want to get involved.

In addition, women between ages 35-39 can request a baseline mammogram, but must have a payment source. The program will also continue to assess and monitor the breast density screening system and new evidence around supplemental screening.

"The modalities for preventing, and controlling breast cancer are well known".

The statics, though, are low for women getting their mammograms, with only 65.3 percent of women over the age of 40 getting one in the past two years, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
