'Stranger Things,' 'Atlanta' snubbed at the Emmy Awards

That number is down 10 percent from last year's 8.2 - which tied with 2016 for what had previously been the least-watched Emmys in history.

The Amazon television show about a 1950s housewife who turns to stand-up comedy won four Emmys in the first hours, including for Rachel Brosnahan's lead role as a 1950s housewife who turns to stand-up after a divorce.

There were many hits and misses when it cames to dresses, however the couples pretty much complimented one another at the Emmy's.

"I want to say six awards, all white winners, and nobody has thanked Jesus yet", co-host Michael Che said, referring back to his earlier joke that only African-American winners do.

"You guys are witnessing the most extraordinary moment of my life thus far", he said during his acceptance speech.

In the end, none of the winners at the show level were surprises: RuPaul's Drag Race, Last Week Tonight, and Saturday Night Live won in reality and variety categories. It did not. Atlanta ended up with three awards overall.

Congratulations to all the winners, and to Game of Thrones! After missing the Emmy run a year ago due to a delayed season, the hit show won best drama series, and also the best supporting actor in a drama for Peter Dinklage.

Elisabeth Moss was nominated for lead actress in a drama for her work in "The Handmaid's Tale", as were "The Crown's" Claire Foy, Keri Russell in "The Americans", Sandra Oh in "Killing Eve", "Westworld's" Evan Rachel Wood and "Orphan Black's" Tatiana Maslany.

Amazon won all its prizes for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a show about a Jewish housewife in 1950s NY who becomes a stand-up comic.

There was plenty of talk about diversity in Hollywood on Monday night at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, but the talk did not translate into wins for performers of color.

As Weiss accepted his award for directing the Oscars, he asked Jan Svendsen, who was sitting in the audience, to marry him.

Game of Thrones may have taken the top drama Emmy last night, but it was streaming that won the day. The tune included a mention of Oh's possible victory: "There were none, now there's one, so we're done", the comedians sang.
