Ramos blasts Griezmann over comments concerning Ronaldo and Messi comparison

Ramos Griezmann’s Ballon d’Or comments shows his ignorance

Atletico play Monaco in France on Tuesday in the Champions League while Madrid begin the defence of their title at home to Roma on Wednesday.

Real Madrid captain and defender Sergio Ramos has lashed out on Atletico Madrid's French forward Antoine Griezmann over his recent claims of being at par with pair of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as world's best player.

Griezmann missed out on making the final three for FIFA's The Best awards, with Ramos' old team-mate Ronaldo, and current team-mate Luka Modric making the list.

Griezmann helped fire France to victory at the World Cup this summer, while he has also won the Europa League with Atletico.

"Everybody is free to give his opinion and thoughts, but this guy should let himself be advised by Cholo Simeone, Diego Godín or Koke, who have some values which could be helpful to him".

"But I have always said that he is a great player and I wish him the best". The striker posted a picture on social media of Ramos placing a crown upon his head.

Julen Lopetegui's side are chasing a fourth consecutive European triumph but they will be without Ronaldo, who scored 15 goals in last year's competition and joined Juventus in the summer.

"Good question. Ignorance can be brash", Ramos said. It's a big gap but it's being filled by players with fantastic talent.

Griezmann has scored just once for Atleti this season as they have taken only five points from 12 in their worst start under Simeone, but after suffering a tough period a year ago he said he believed things could turn.

"We had a really good World Cup campaign, the whole team deserve to be awarded: (Kylian) Mbappe, (Raphael) Varane, (N'Golo) Kante, who had an awesome World Cup even though no-one talks about it, or even myself".
