Klopp hits back at Gary Neville’s Champions League comments

Danny Higginbotham predicts Tottenham v Liverpool FC

Brazilian striker Firmino was forced off during Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday after Vertonghen unintentionally gauged his left eye.

Despite seeing his side fail to put the game to bed earlier, manager Jurgen Klopp was delighted the overall display ahead of the huge clash with PSG.

After Manchester City's comfortable run to the Premier League title last season, it seemed as if the most likely outcome this season was for the club to do it again with not much competition.

Erik Lamela scored a late goal to set up a nervy finish but the Reds held on for three points.

A long-throw in from Danny Rose into the Liverpool box initially appeared to have been dealt with, however, as Son Heung-min found himself with the ball at his feet bearing down on the Liverpool goal, the incoming Sadio Mane appeared to make contact with the South Korean. We could have scored more and we controlled the game.

"A good pre-season should be at least three or four weeks", said Klopp.

Liverpool avenged last season's 4-1 defeat to Spurs at Wembley to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League. Tottenham were very erratic at the back and struggled to deal with the pace of the Liverpool attackers. It's fantastic we won all of them, it's fantastic we improved and this today was by far our best performance of the season, so I like that development.

"It was a very good performance, maybe our best against Tottenham in all the years since I'm here, but I imagine only five per cent less and probably we would have lost". We played the type of football that is really nice for a manager. We need to improve a lot. I don't know exactly at the moment, but it's something with his eye.

Speaking ahead of Spurs' game against Liverpool, Pochettino said, "Harry has all the profile of the midfielder - flawless".

The next challenge is in the Champions League with a trip to Inter Milan on Tuesday when Liverpool hosts Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the group stage.
