Khalil Mack: Ready to Play For the Chicago Bears - ESPN 98.1 FM

Gruden: We all Came to a Decision on Mack Together

Over the weekend, the Chicago Bears sent shockwaves throughout the entire National Football League after acquiring former Oakland Raiders pass rusher Khalil Mack.

The Raiders sent Mack and a second-round pick in 2020 and a 2020 conditional fifth-rounder to the Chicago Bears for first-round picks in 2019 and 2020, a sixth-rounder in 2019 and a third-rounder in 2020.

Though Gurley gets out of facing Mack in week one, he will, however, be forced to play Mack in week 14 against the Chicago Bears. We got a job to do.' I think that's the mark of Mr. [Reggie] McKenzie and Coach [Jon] Gruden bringing in the right kind of people.

When the Bears traded for Khalil Mack on Saturday, it extended their depth chart at outside linebacker and put into question the status of Aaron Lynch. So, the team continued to stay in touch, even without hearing back anything significant from the Raiders. For one, the Minnesota Vikings signed a new quarterback in Kirk Cousins, making them the favorites to win the division. You can call him a defensive end. "And regardless of how you look at it, that's what it's all about to me", said Mack, "I'm going to go out and work hard and make sure I put my step on it".

Oakland coach Jon Gruden tried to clear the air when he addressed his team before Monday's practice as the Raiders prepared for their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams next Monday night. "He has every tool you need to be a great rusher - speed, power, length, athleticism - all of it". We don't get paid for that. "We both have the same goals, but I just don't want him to win the Super Bowl".

O-line check: Nagy didn't confirm Eric Kush will start at left guard for the Bears on Sunday but he said "there's a good chance" that will happen.

Carr took a bit less to get Jackson done and keep the Raiders on schedule to extend Mack the following offseason.

"We don't have to like or agree with everything", Carr said. One of the reasons I'm here is because of him", said Gruden, "Unfortunatley we had a standoff with the contract and we could not come to terms.

DL Akiem Hicks led the Bears with 8.5 sacks last year, but he won't see as many double-teams this year, playing alongside Mack, who's had 36.5 sacks over the past three seasons. "We all knew. Gabe, Jelly, me, Khalil, we all saw it coming".

"It didn't go away, because he's your buddy, but at the same time it went away because we have a game to get ready for".
