Henry Cavill will lead 'The Witcher' series for Netflix

News broke this morning that Cavill will be hunting beasts in a fantasy world as Geralt of Riva for Netflix's fantasy-drama THE WITCHER.

After weeks of speculation, Henry Cavill has officially been cast in the title role of Geralt of Rivia for Netflix's upcoming Witcher adaptation and he's provided a cheeky first response to the news on his Instagram account. When destiny puts Geralt toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a valuable secret, the three have to navigate a volatile Continent together. He is a massive fan of Andrzej Sapkowski's series of fantasy short stories and novels about the witcher Geralt of Rivia. But now we have one heck of an update that has made this an even more high-profile project than it was pegged to be previously, with Cavill on board to play Geralt of Rivia. "Well versed with the books and video games makes it a no brainer".

Henry Cavill, best known for playing Superman in the current DC Comics film series and for his role in this summer's action blockbuster Mission: Impossible - Fallout, is taking his big body to the small screen. Some took to social media to express their anger and disappointment at the thought of Cavill heading up the eight-part series. "Love that game. Really good game".

Cavill also told IGN that he has read The Witcher books and believes that they are "amazing" and "well worth a read". The show's executive producer Lauren S. Hissrich also tweeted about Cavill's appointment to the role, writing: "He was my first meeting".

The series has scored an incredible line of directors with the first four episodes being helmed by Alik Sakharov (of Game of Thrones and House of Cards). That being said, DualShockers will be sure to let you know when that date is announced or more casting information is released.
