Driver Laughs While Running Over Emus, Disturbing Video Goes Viral

Alleged Emu Killer Charged With Multiple Animal Cruelty Offences

The Cowangie man will be charged on summons with animal cruelty, animal torment, destruction of protected wildlife and traffic offences.

A Victorian man says he's the victim of mistaken identity - as online trolls threaten him and his family over a video showing a bloke mowing down emus in the outback.

The man can be heard saying, "Fucking emus..."

In the video, the driver is heard cheering as he strikes the birds on a dirt road with his vehicle.

About 20 seconds later, the video shows the auto approaching a mob of emus which are running away from the vehicle.

Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported that in addition to four animal-cruelty charges, the man, 20, was also charged with speeding and using his phone behind the wheel.

"This is great - I've got that one too, and that one", he says. More than 10 emus appear to be hit and left for dead.

Victoria Police have arrested and charged the 20-year-old man allegedly responsible for deliberately running over emus in rural Victoria.

Authorities are now investigating the video, which was believed have been filmed in South Australia.

RSPCA staff are examining the footage to try and determine where it was filmed, and said multiple names had been circulated in the media.

The suspect is to appear in court on November 9.

Australia's leading animal welfare group, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), appealed to the public for information.

"We had a number of leads and we are looking into those", he said on Friday.
