Download Now: Google Maps for Apple CarPlay Now Available in iOS 12

iOS 12 supports third party map apps in CarPlay, and Google has now updated its very own Maps in the App Store in order to enable this functionality.

Google Maps' inclusion in CarPlay is made possible by the iOS 12 update released yesterday.

One of the most-requested features of CarPlay since it launched, it means no longer being forced to use Apple Maps when you hook your iPhone up to a compatible in-car infotainment system. While there are other options out there, the obvious go-to destination app for many people is going to be Google Maps.

Things we're excited about: rainbows, puppies, and navigating with Google Maps on Apple CarPlay. Nonetheless, it was an iPhone disconnect that left many drivers frustrated.

Google Maps is a hugely-popular application that can be used for navigation in addition to finding landmarks, restaurants and businesses. That adds compatibility with CarPlay.

The new Google Maps with CarPlay support is available to download now, from the App Store.

But now Google Maps has officially landed on dashboard system, meaning users now have the choice to harness it instead of Apple Maps. You'll see your vehicle listed. It will only work with iOS 12, so make sure you have the latest OS installed on your iOS device.

CarPlay is Apple's version of Android Auto, in a nutshell.

A blog post from Ruwen Hess, the product manager of Google Maps, declared: "Google Maps on CarPlay features the same navigation experience found in the app". However, Waze last week invited beta users to test its CarPlay-support app. Baidu maps is also expected to come to CarPlay.
