Unai Emery makes two shock selections for first Arsenal game

Ainsley Maitland Niles is likely to start at left-back against Manchester City

Arsenal manager Unai Emery said his team would need more time to adapt to his tactical approach but maintained there were some positive signs in the 2-0 season-opening loss to champions Manchester City.

"In the first match it is good to play against Manchester City but it is also maybe a little more hard than our season will be".

Mesut Ozil is likely to start in his preferred No.10 position against Manchester City. They could have led by three or four in the first half, but only Raheem Sterling found a route past Petr Cech before the break.

Arsenal started well, pressing and harrying City, but Guardiola's men absorbed the early pressure and eased their way to ascendancy. I would expect us to perhaps sit deep (as most underdogs would) and narrow, limiting the space in behind and between the lines for Liverpool to create chances. They do not have that searing turn of speed that is needed to really threaten Premier League defences.

I believe the signings we have made are of huge potential, and that we have massively strengthened our attacking options, which quite clearly indicates the way in which Manuel Pellegrini wants his West Ham side to play.

They then posted another tweet showing Leno starting of a slick team goal that was ultimately finished by Julian Brandt. This wasn't their greatest ever performance, but the fact they were so comfortable against a side that would realistically be wanting to challenge them, is paramount of just how good this Manchester City team is.

Seconds later, City had scored again, Bernardo producing a spectacular first-time left-footed finish that flew into the top corner in emphatic fashion.

"What I saw in the last training sessions and Chelsea and Arsenal games is we are still there".

"We're getting obsessed with this stupid "let's play out from the back, split the centre-halfs either side of the 18-yard box and go and play from there". But the spirit is there and that is the most important thing. We are very happy. But such is the fixation with managers, we obsessed over Emery taking over as if it were mainly a change of personalities, of leaders.

"The desire to run and run, it was the same as the last season, " Guardiola said.
