Then he bounced it outside and gained the edge on flat-footed Browns CB Damarious Randall.

Barkley had four more carries, which only resulted in four yards gained, after his big play. For the Browns, first-overall pick Baker Mayfield could see his first National Football League snaps at quarterback. The drive included conversions on third and long and fourth and two. Taylor's first completion was a 32-yarder to Jarvis Landry, who apparently did something other than "bless" Janoris Jenkins afterward, as the newest "Hard Knocks" star drew a 15-yard taunting penalty.

With the first preseason contest behind us, what can Browns fans come away with for this game? It started with him throwing a lovely back shoulder pass to Rashard Higgins.

On his first touch Thursday night - in his first-ever preseason game and on the first play - Barkley appeared to be stopped at the line of scrimmage, before juking several Cleveland defenders out of their shoes, finding an opening and running for a 39-yard gain.

One of Baker's favorite targets throughout the night was fellow rookie Antonio Callaway.

With the handoff from quarterback Eli Manning, Barkley took a few steps back before cutting up the right side of the field and breaking three tackles along the way.

Mayfield finished a stellar evening 11-of-20 for 212 yards and two touchdowns. That's unlikely, as Hue Jackson and John Dorsey have up until now been steadfast in the support of the starter, Taylor, who couldn't have been more efficient in his own Browns debut. It may have been the first preseason game, but that doesn't change the fact that at least some of the real gameplan made it into this one.
