Thanks to Tiger Woods, PGA Championship ratings soar

Unimaginative design doesn’t dampen fan enthusiasm at Bellerive during PGA Jeff Curry USA TODAY Sports

Tiger Woods of the United States plays a shot from a bunker on the sixth hole during the final round of the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club on August 12, 2018 in St Louis, Missouri.

Resurgent Tiger Woods, who stormed to a second-place finish, playing his Sunday round with Woodland, likely will lock up one captains' pick, Phil Mickelson another. After the two men shook hands, Woods walked over and hugged Koepka's girlfriend, Jena Sims, and their embrace has gone viral. "I knew it was going to be a struggle to piece together a round and I did".

"And then to hit such a good shot on 16, and especially to make the putt when Scotty [Adam Scott] nearly chipped it in".

"I made a bit of a run, looks like I'm going to come up a couple of shots short", Woods said.

"I'm not sure numbers are all that important".

Koepka was responsible for that. Tiger Woods, who will be a vice captain for the Americans at Le Golf National, spoke highly of DechamBeau this week.

The PGA Championship at Bellerive heralded some real game-changing events as we head towards the FedEx Cup playoffs, Ryder Cup, and to 2019.

Currently ranked 82nd in the world, Fox has now made an impressive five out of six cuts in major championships.

There was the U.S. Open champion, Brooks Koepka, trying to muscle his way to a third major championship. His game is trending and it is great to see him playing well. To his credit, he bouncd back with birdies at 10 and 11 but the damage was done. After a bogey on No. 14, he made a 30-foot putt to save par on No. 15.

Plenty have been quick to write Woods off, but this performance - coupled with his impressive showing at the British Open in Carnoustie last month - suggests he is still a force to be reckoned with. Right from the moment he got healthy this year he hit the tour running.

That was as good as it got.

After years of being a relative non-factor, Woods has seen a resurgence of late that has brought forth the roars from the gallery which used to be so commonplace during his more dominant years.

"His two heroes were coming after him".

US captain Jim Furyk unveiled the automatic qualifiers for his team Monday morning at Bellerive, a group that includes newly crowned PGA champion Brooks Koepka, who topped the points list for the biennial battle in Paris next month.

"It's tough to beat when the guy hits it 340 down the middle", Woods said. So just had a lot of things go wrong. He sat in 20th place at the start of the week.

Koepka joked about working out in a public gym this week with Dustin Johnson and not being recognized. Sir Nick Faldo was in Missouri providing analysis for CBS and as the network reported its biggest audience figures for a US PGA since Woods was last in contention nine years ago - when he was beaten by YE Yang - it was smiles all round.

Koepka, already with two US Opens under his belt, watched as the power duo rose from a huge pack at halfway in a pulsating final round, then did nothing more than play his final 12 holes in five under par. Because no one has ever had a fused spine hitting it like I'm hitting it.
