Motorola Z3 hands-on: Motorola's latest smartphone, brought to you by Verizon

Moto Z3 debuts with fingerprint scanner on the side, 5G mod - news

They also introduced a 5G Moto Mod to go along with it. It also will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, with a microSD card slot for adding up to 2TB of storage.

Verizon is still working deploying its 5G network, and the Moto Z3 Play wasn't an official handset at the time, so it was just a quick preview of what was to come. In regards to the pricing of the 5G Moto Mod, Motorola is yet to confirm any details but it will not be available for the general public until the beginning of 2019.

Motorola's high-end smartphone for the year, the Moto Z3 is finally here and just like last time, it will be a Verizon exclusive. Additionally, the accessory also makes the Moto Z3 the first 5G-upgradeable smartphone.

Moto Z3 is powered by 2.35GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 GPU.

The Moto Z3 will be available exclusively through Verizon Wireless in the US and will begin shipping on August 16. However, in a surprising decision, Motorola has opted to equip the Moto Z3 with last year's Snapdragon 835 processor, rather than the Snapdragon 845 chipset found in the latest flagships. The next-generation wireless technology, promising significantly higher speed and responsiveness, is seen as a potential catalyst for a wave of innovation in tech, powering everything from self-driving cars to telemedicine and streaming VR. A dual-LED flash accompanies the rear camera. It will be running on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and should get the Android P update later this year. The Moto Z3 comes with Turbopower support. On the front side, there's an 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture. Up front, there's an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/2.0 aperture. It'll be sold in a ceramic black color. You will need to purchase the accessory separately, but the fact that Motorola has beaten other manufacturers despite not even being in the top five smartphone manufacturers in the world, that is an impressive feat. The smartphone supports QuickCharge 4.0, which will give you half a day of battery life with just a 30-minute charge. Between in-house work, efforts from longstanding hardware partners and upstart Mod creators, Motorola has made it clear that Moto Mods won't just disappear overnight.

The 5G Moto Mod is a module that attaches itself on the back of the Moto Z3 to enable 5G connectivity. Alongside announcing the launch of the Moto Z3, the company has revealed that it has no plans to bring the anticipated Moto Z3 Force. Pricing for the mod wasn't announced.

These questions will likely surface as the 5G Moto Mod's release nears. We're now in Chicago awaiting to see a hardware demo.
