Koepka Holds 2-stroke Lead; Tiger in Top 6

Gary Woodland and Kevin Kisner are in prime position halfway through the 100th PGA Championship

All four of those four shots under par were all gained on the first eight holes of Woods' second round (finished Saturday morning), as well.

Rory McIlroy completed a frustrating PGA Championship campaign and hinted that he could take a break from golf to work on his game ahead of the Ryder Cup. That was four back of leader Brooks Koepka - well within striking range, but not as good as it might've been. With Woods charging and with playing partner Adam Scott making a move, he didn't budge. And he will have done it in a year that began with a wrist injury so bad, he missed the Masters.

"My caddie said something walking off", Koepka said. "Sometimes your haters, I guess, are your biggest motivators". "You should see the best players in the world come to the top". You can't hide my name.

Woods and Fowler were among those just happy to get off the course.

Tiger Woods is back!

Woods didn't discount the fact that the long day might have had an impact.

While the golfers were putting up low scores, the only thing that could stop them was mother nature.

Earlier, Koepka brought Bellerive to its proverbial knees with five birdies in an outward half of 30 strokes. Thomas, known to get angry then move on, recovered quickly with birdies at Nos.

But still, there is magic in the air. The big swing, the one that likely cost him a chance at a second major title, came at No. 15.

"It's a pretty intense environment out there". But there's no question what Woods will need to do. On Sunday, it was clear that the gallery at Bellerive Country Club wanted to see Tiger Woods turn back time.

"You're never going to win another golf tournament again". Or so many other majors over the past decade. It would get even crazier.

In the end, though, it was Koepka who held off the entire field and walked away with his second major title of the year.

"The juices were flowing a little bit", he said of Saturday.

"For some reason I can really tune in in the majors", he said, "and I have no idea why". Woods played 29 holes, while Fowler played 26.

British Open champion Francesco Molinari is in a three-strong group on seven-under, the Italian continuing the fine form he showed at Carnoustie last month. He has not won a tournament since.

"It was awesome", said Stewart Cink, who also shot 66.

By Saturday evening, 11 players were within four shots of the top, seven of them past major winners.

Watching Finau make all those birdies, Furyk "didn't say anything, but he was just shaking his head", Finau said. Yeah, there's a lot of star power, and it should be. Major championship golf is amusing.

Of course, we've all been there, save the part about playing in a major and actually being good enough to warrant being ticked off at missing a fairway.

So anything could happen Sunday. Scott missed his from 18 feet; Koepka made his from 10 feet.

The man they are chasing seems unfazed by the lead. "This is the first real "Tiger effect" I guess you could say".
