Kevin de Bruyne: Man City midfielder suffers knee injury in training

Betfair punters have been rushing to back Liverpool to win the Premier League after it emerged that Man City talisman Kevin De Bruyne has suffered a serious injury.

"The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin's condition in due course".

De Bruyne suffered lateral knee ligament damage in 2016 after catching studs in the Etihad pitch against Everton and missed nearly 10 weeks of action.

The Belgian was a key part of City's dominance last season as he registered a league-best 16 assists and added eight goals as Pep Guardiola's men romped to the title.

Despite having a lot strength in depth in the squad, De Bruyne is arguably the club's best player and an extended absence would have an impact on the team.

He was a second-half substitute in the 2-0 Premier League-opening victory over Arsenal on Sunday, coming on in the 60th minute.

Then, De Bruyne went on to spend more than two months on the sidelines. And De Bruyne's injury could present an early opportunity for exciting youngster Phil Foden.

Manchester City will be without the playmaker for the foreseeable future but have adequate cover in Ilkay Gundogan, David Silva and Bernardo Silva.
