EPL: Sarri names one player he regrets not signing for Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has endured a tough pre-season with Manchester United

Sarri, the 59-year-old Italian charged with resurrecting a Chelsea side which fell stagnant during the stewardship of former head coach Antonio Conte, started his Premiership career with a 3-0 win away to Huddersfield Town in the first round of games of the new English season this weekend.

Jorginho, who followed Sarri's path from Napoli for a reported £50 million (A$87.4 million), added to the opener from 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning midfielder N'Golo Kante, who returned as one of three changes to the team that lost to City.

As well as brilliantly setting up the third goal of the afternoon for Pedro, the winger also embarked on a mazy run that took five Huddersfield players to stop him.

He has been their best player in recent years and the team needs him now, more than ever with a new manager in charge.

Jorginho then whispered something to Hazard that caused the Belgian to burst out laughing.

Both of the England internationals face a battle to impress Sarri, although neither is pushing for a switch elsewhere.

Former Napoli coach Sarri replaced Antonio Conte in a restless summer for the London club but any fears of an opening-day upset disappeared with goals from France worldwide N'Golo Kante, summer signing Jorginho and Pedro.

He has deemed the Frenchman to be surplus to requirements, despite a desire from Bakayoko to remain on Chelsea's books and try and play his way into form.

Bakayoko started 25 Premier League games last season but did not really perform brilliantly.

"I think that Eden in this moment can not play for 90 minutes, he needs to have training", Sarri said of the Belgium star.

Julen Lopetegui's side are in need of more top players who can help them retain the Champions League title and win more silverware, after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

Sarri said: "You have to wait for a couple of months".

"We're happy because to be honest our pre-season games were not that good", Rudiger said.

But Chelsea again punctuated a strong spell for the hosts with a goal, Jorginho sitting debutant Ben Hamer down with a skip in his run-up for an incredibly cool spot-kick after Christopher Schindler caught Marcos Alonso at the end of a neat move from the Blues. We made too many mistakes and missed our chances. I don't know. The situation until now has been very hard.
