While social media users chimed in with prayers and wishes for Franklin's recovery following the reports of her illness, others wondered if these reports were similar to the ones from November 2017 that falsely claimed she had passed away.

The I Say A Little Prayer songstress, 76, was originally diagnosed with cancer in 2010.

The soul singer has not been seen in public since November past year, where she looked frail as she performed at the 25th anniversary of Elton John's AIDS Foundation in NY.

The Detroit Historical Society reports that Franklin's family lived in Detroit shortly after she was born in 1942.

She said: "I'm doing well generally, all test have come back good".

"I am not one to do a lot of talking about my personal health or business", she said. Franklin's father managed her during the early years of her career, with her grandmother and sister helping to raise the two boys. Her mother died before her 10th birthday and not long after, Franklin started singing in her first solo shows. I feel very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now'. "No one in my family ever said that to anybody".

Aretha promised she wasn't going to "go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing".

Last February she announced that 2017 would be her previous year "in concert", BET reveals. She is also renowned as one of most successful artists of all time, having sold over 75 million records worldwide.

Then, in the late '80s, she became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
