Teva Recalls Hypertension Drug Valsartan Due to Carcinogen Trace

The FDA asked three companies, Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd., to recall their valsartan products.

The recalled medications include Valsartan Tablets manufactured by Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare, and Teva Pharmaceuticals, as well as Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets from Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Valsartan, a common drug used to manage blood pressure and prevent heart failure, has been recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Instead, they should to continue taking the drugs until a replacement is found and should contact their health care professional, the FDA advised, according to Time.

The authority, taking notice of misconception declares in clear terms that valsartan medicine made by Pakistani companies is not banned and only batches manufactured by the valsartan raw material manufactured using are being recalled.

The company supplies the ingredient to manufacturers producing some of the valsartan medicines available in the European Union, and some initial reports were that USA manufacturers were not affected.

This recall is being conducted with the full knowledge of the U.S. FDA. If you are not able to see and analyze the information written on the bottle then you should contact the pharmacy which has sold the medicine in order to seek the company name. It is commonly used in combination with hydrochlorothiazide to treat hypertension.
