Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are fun for humans, hard on pets

Specifically, a handful of MI state parks and recreation areas where a fireworks-free Fourth of July experience is being offered. Fireworks display at Lone Pine State Park.

Take your dog to a dog park so he or she can get plenty of exercise and use up all that energy before the fireworks start. Nonetheless, those states have gone further than IL in allowing their residents the freedom to responsibly use consumer fireworks. 2 between 10 a.m. -10 p.m. Fireworks can not be sold or given to any person under the age of 18. There will be music from the Schenectady County Orchestra and members of the Empire State Youth Orchestra CHIME program starting at 7 pm.

For many families, this means more exciting and colorful Independence Day celebrations.

- Country artist Joe Nichols and special guest Trent Tomlinson will perform at the Portneuf Wellness Complex Amphitheater on Tuesday, July 3.

Starts 4 p.m. Wednesday. The fireworks will begin at 10:30 p.m. A children's bike parade will take place from 10 a.m.to noon Wednesday at Immaculate Conception School to Metter Park, Columbia.

Lakeside: The Somers/Lakeside Fire Department is hosting a BBQ from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.at the fire hall.

Weather for the event is also expected to uphold a July 4 tradition: it will be hot with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Deshayes says this year's theme is "Land of the free because of the fearless".

Live music includes Apollos Beacon and Vic Ferrari.

- The Bannock County Independence Celebration begins with a beach party at 3 p.m.at the Portneuf Wellness Complex. Entertainment, food for purchase, vendors, fitness activities and more will culminate with a spectacular fireworks show at night.

- Fourth of July music and fireworks will be from 7-10:30 p.m.in downtown Driggs.

Shepherdstown will hold a Fourth of July parade, which will begin on German Street at 11 a.m. Judging will follow at 9 a.m. before the parade itself begins an hour later.

If you don't want to courageous the traffic for any of those options, or if you don't want to roll your own fireworks, there are plenty of fireworks displays to be seen all over metro Atlanta on July 3 or July 4.
