Enjoy the lunar eclipse in Dubrovnik

"Our talks this year put a heavy accent on our environment to help make people aware that while looking up at the heavens it is still vital to ensure we preserve our planet", Prof.

This event is not to be confused with a total solar eclipse like the one that was visible across a swath of the continental USA last summer.

"We have a rare and interesting conjunction of phenomena", Pascal Descamps, an astronomer with the Paris Observatory, told AFP.

No two Lunar Eclipses are ever quite the same, and although some dismiss them as of less interest than Solar Eclipses -particularly total Solar Eclipses, where the events centred on totality occur rapidly, in contrast with more stately progress of a Lunar Eclipse - they are fascinating to observe.

It sounds impossible - an eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon are in a straight line - meaning you couldn't see the Moon and the Sun at the same time.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon orbits into the central part of the Earth s shadow. The main difference from one event to another is the degree to which the totally eclipsed Moon is darkened and how colourful it might be. Unlike solar eclipse that can only be seen on the limited territory.

Astronomy enthusiasts are now anxious to know whether or not another lunar eclipse Blood Moon is looming just over the horizon. In a famous passage in the Book of Joel in the Hebrew Bible, it warns that "the sun will turn into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and awful day of the Lord comes".

There might once have been life on... the Moon? Yes, say researchers

Mars is making its closest approach to Earth in 15 years on Tuesday, which means the red planet will be shinier and bigger and easier to observe, said USA space agency NASA.

Steel said the colouration of this so-called "blood moon" - a spectacle shrouded in ancient superstition - was due to some sunlight leaking through Earth's atmosphere and reaching the moon.

The moon sets near a light on the roof of Safeco Field during a baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago White Sox, Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Seattle.

Hundreds of people in Australia have already paid to watch the eclipse from the Sydney Observatory before sunrise.

Will Ukrainians be able to see the eclipse?

But with cloudy skies across the Philippines forecast for the whole week and a southwest monsoon, weather forecasters are not optimistic Filipinos will get a good view of the eclipse.

But a partial eclipse will begin by 11.55 pm on Friday when the moon starts entering the earth's shadow. While some tabloids have predicted the lunar eclipse will mean some tragic event or even the end of the world, there is not cause for concern. Lunar Eclipses usually precede or follow Solar Eclipses by a fortnight. Observation won't need a telescope, however, stock up on binoculars would be useful. A red light will be reflected of the moon's surface, and thus we all see a magnificent red or blood moon.
