Rematch on: Canelo and GGG to fight on September 15th

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin

If that happens, Golden Boy also will have to increase its offer to Jacobs to make that fight for September 15 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Almost two hours after the deadline set by Golden Boy Promotions, both Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have come to terms for a rematch on September 15th in Las Vegas.

"Still working on it", Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler relayed following the deadline, as Golovkin was in Moscow for the opening ceremonies of the 2018 World Cup.

The news will come as a blow to WBO champion Saunders, who had a deal in place to take on Golovkin at the end of August. Many thought Golovkin won the fight but one judge scored it even and the other two were split between giving it to Golovkin and Alvarez.

The deadline came and went with no update but, suddenly, confirmation arrived in the form of a tweet from Golden Boy's official Twitter account.

Golovkin was the holder of three of the major world titles but was recently stripped of the IBF belt after declining to agree to fight mandatory challenger Sergey Derevyanchenko.

A rematch was planned for May only for Canelo to withdraw after failing two drugs tests for banned substance clenbuterol in February.

Mexico's Alvarez, 27, resumed training recently for what will be his first fight in nearly exactly a year.

"In the first fight, it was a respectful promotion, but in the second fight, with the positive test and the way Gennady had to scramble to be able to fight on May 5, he is very edgy".
