North American trio beats Morocco to host 2026 World Cup

U.S., Canada and Mexico to Host World Cup in 2026

"A lot of hard work has really paid off by USA soccer, [the] Mexican Soccer Federation and the Canadian Soccer Federation to bring it to all three host countries for the very first time in World Cup history".

Under the United Bid proposal, the list of host cities for the world's most watched sporting event likely will include two or three in Canada, three in Mexico and 10 in the United States.

The World Cup is coming to North America.

The 2026 World Cup is to be the first to feature 48 teams, compared to the 32 that are to compete in Russian Federation and Qatar.

"It's always a bit of a stronger bid with more countries, but at same time if we are talking about England, with their infrastructure, they can host on their own or with the rest of the U.K".

Nashville has recently hosted World Cup Qualifying matches and CONCACAF Gold Cup matches. Though some high-profile countries went for Morocco, 41 of 55 UEFA members ended up voting for the United Bid.

While Portland is known for its tremendous support of soccer, the city doesn't have a stadium that would support the attendance numbers expected for a World Cup game.

The VAR will be overseen remotely from a control room in Moscow throughout the tournament and, in a bid to control sweat levels, FIFA is insisting they forgo civilian suits and ties in favour of football shirts and shorts. Hosting rights for previous World Cups had been awarded by what was then a 24-person FIFA Executive Committee.

The Russian president also expressed gratitude to FIFA President Gianni Infantino for his positive attitude toward Russia and the great job he has done as the FIFA head. Unless there is an unexpected change, Canada and Mexico's host sites are set.

"We know that we have the best stadium in the country", Iveson said. Both the United States and Canada failed to qualify for this year's World Cup. The tournament has been jointly hosted only once before, by Japan and Korea in 2002.

The U.S. metro areas in the running are Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium), Baltimore (M&T Bank Stadium), Boston (Gillette Stadium), Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium), Dallas (AT&T Stadium), Denver (Sports Authority Field), Houston (NRG Stadium), Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium), Los Angeles (Rose Bowl and the new National Football League stadium), Miami (Hard Rock Stadium), Nashville (Nissan Stadium), New York (MetLife Stadium), Orlando (Camping World Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), San Jose (Levi's Stadium), Seattle (Century Link Field) and Washington (FedEx Field).

Under Trump, relations between the United States, Canada and Mexico have plumbed new lows thanks to disputes in the renegotiation of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, known as NAFTA, a $1.1 trillion trade pact that ties the three countries' economies together and which Trump has said should be scrapped.

The World Cup final will be played in New Jersey's Metlife Stadium, which holds around 85,000.
