Democrats compete in Virginia's 10th Congressional District primary

Democratic candidates in the suburban enclaves of northern Virginia are hoping President Donald Trump's unpopularity among the federal government workers who live here will deliver them a key House race

Eastern in North Dakota, and at 10 p.m.in Nevada.

Here are results from the already-held primaries in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and a brief run-down of what to watch across the country Tuesday night.

The Democratic candidates have a challenge getting voters to remember their names. Kaine, who ran as Hillary Clinton's vice presidential candidate in 2016, has held the seat since 2013.

In North Dakota, Republican Representative Kevin Cramer is the presumptive challenger to Heitkamp, who is in the fight of her career in a state Trump carried by a whopping 36 percentage points. Scott Hammond and former reporter Michelle Mortensen.

Despite being an eclectic mix, all the Democrats in the race point to President Donald Trump - his conduct in and out of office as much as his administration's policies - as a key factor in their decisions to run for Congress.

It is a different story in western counties, where voters must choose between a Republican and Democratic ballot.

SC and ME have contests for governor, but the outcome in the ME races to pick candidates to replace outgoing Republican Governor Paul LePage could be delayed as officials sort out the results in the new ranked-choice voting system.

Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani speaks during a commission meeting on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, in Las Vegas. Geoffrey Skelley of Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball writes, "Comstock is a prodigious fundraiser and has a history of outpacing the partisan lean of districts she has represented, but the district's Democratic shifts in 2016 and 2017 show why she is one of the Democrats' foremost targets in 2018".

Both parties have contested congressional primaries throughout the rest of the state, but Comstock's district is the only one rated toss-up by independent analysts.

Despite Republican objections, the Congressional district boundaries drawn by the state's Democratic governor on the basis of an order from the Democrat-dominated State Supreme Court were in place in the May primary election and will also be in place in the November general election.

In the Seventh Congressional District, incumbent Republican Rep. Dave Brat will face off against the victor of a Democratic primary between former Central Intelligence Agency operative Abigail Spanberger and retired Col. Dan Ward. Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) is nearly certain to win the Republican primary to face Sen. Vying to defeat her in November are four Democrats who are facing off Tuesday - state Sen.

Democrats in VA-10: Candidates are Jennifer Wexton (see my endorsement here), Alison Friedman, Lindsey Davis Stover, Dan Helmer, Julia Biggins and Paul Pelletier.

A recent court decision in one state-Pennsylvania-threw out those old gerrymandered district boundaries and forced new, more Democrat- friendly boundaries onto the state's 19 seats in the House of Representatives, which in turn helped put eight seats now held by Republicans-and only one seat now held by a Democrat-into the "competitive race" category.

Democrats are also on a long winning streak in Virginia. Ed Gillespie won this district last November 54%-45%.

"Just be aware that it is two elections", Cochran told WDBJ7, "Democratic primary, Republican primary". Control of the Senate, now held 51-49 by Republicans, could turn on how they fare in the congressional election less than five months away. The Democratic primary is a competitive race now between Abigail Spanberger and Dan Ward.
