Xiaomi in-house camera department to focus on image quality

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5

Earlier this year, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphone first in India and then it was launched in China.

Xiaomi is all set to launch a new budget smartphone in India soon. However, going by the fact that it will be a selfie-focused phone, it will be Redmi S2. That said, only the Redmi S2 could be launched in India as Redmi Y2 this month, and the Mi A2 might arrive at a later date.

According to GadgetsNow, in terms of specification, this Note 5 successor is expected to feature a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2160 pixels and 424 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, the handset will be powered by Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor bundled with Adreno 506 GPU.

Although the prices have not been released for India, experts say it is expected to be Rs 10,600 and Rs 13,700 for two variants launched.

In the camera, Redmi S2 sports a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP primary camera with LED Flash, 1.25μm pixel size, PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, and a secondary 5MP camera. The new Redmi handset was seen in the teaser by Xiaomi in various social media channels, though not many details were revealed. The segment registered a QoQ growth of 50% with Reliance Jio leading the table with market share of 38.4%, followed by Samsung (10.4%) and Transsion holdings (7.9%). At the front, the device features a 16MP camera with AI integration for better low light Selfies.

Xiaomi's S series debuted in China last week with Redmi S2.

While the memo sent out is in Chinese and we're unable to verify its contents (or if it truly came from Lei Jun) it apparently speaks of accumulating more technology to help the power of the camera within its phones. Xiaomi maintained its lead in the market for second quarter in a row with further expansion in the offline channel and popularity of its models such as Redmi 5A and Redmi Note 5. With 3080mAh battery inside, the Redmi S2 will get you through the day just fine. It runs on Android Oreo Operating system with MIUI 9.5. The phone also has a fingerprint sensor at the back located at the right side of the camera. Both variants will go on sale in China starting May 17 in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose Gold colour options.
