Vote today in school board and budget election

Votes can be cast between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., in the music room of the intermediate school on Leland Lane. Voters will also be electing two members to the Board of Education Tuesday. She will be joined on the board by newcomer Jordana Sobey, who will be replacing Stephanie Bitis, who will not be running for reelection.

There are also five candidates vying for three vacant seats on the Board of Education.

The total Durham County budget increase is $11.3 million, or 1.8 percent over the fiscal year 2017‐18 approved budget. Ronald White, Lillian Tyree-Johnson and Douglass DeGroot are all seeking to continue serving on the Bridgehampton School Board. This significant shortfall required budget cuts throughout the district.

Islandwide, proposed spending plans show an average 2.85 percent increase for the coming academic year, to $12.8 billion, while tax collections would grow 2.37 percent, to $8.7 billion.

The district's current full value tax rate is $14.37 per $1,000 of assessed value. Newcomer Heather Wright will be replacing School Board member Claire Bean, who has opted not to run for reelection.
