Red Hydrogen phone coming to Verizon and AT&T

RED's Hydrogen One will be available at AT&T and Verizon this summer

But it looks like a summer launch is still expected. The website now lists $1,295 for the aluminum phone and $1,595 for the titanium version.

Verizon on Thursday announced that the first holographic phone in the world, the RED Hydrogen One, is going to be available to subscribers later this year.

YouTube personality Marques Brownlee saw a prototype of the phone a year ago and was impressed by the holographic screen despite some rough edges that Red will presumably smooth over before the phone launches.

Recently, Red stated that the phone was delayed and now coming in August.

Another detail missing from the carriers' announcements is how much you can expect to pay for the Hydrogen One. Needless to say, it's shocking that the US' biggest carriers are offering this phone, especially when one of them isn't even offering some mainstream flagships. On the plus side, AT&T also offers consumers the chance to get a first look at the holographic smartphone through a demo at AT&T SHAPE at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles on either June 2nd or June 3rd.

Availability on AT&T and Verizon should be a huge win for RED, especially considering that the Hydrogen One sounds like a phone you'll need to see in person to really experience what it has to offer. This means the handset can handle not just 2D and 3D images but also mixed reality, augmented reality, and virtual reality all without added hardware. Indeed, the company blames some of its delays on carrier certification. At the time, Red was looking to launch the phone by early 2018.
