Penn State and DePaul meet in Gavitt Tipoff Games in Chicago

Ohio State basketball traveling to Creighton as part of 2018-19 Gavitt Games

The Penn State men's basketball team returns to the Gavitt Tipoff Games schedule and will play DePaul on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.

The Gavitt Tipoff Games are an early-season series matching Big East programs against Big Ten schools. Television coverage of the Gavitt Tipoff Games will be provided by either FS1 or BTN.

Other matchups on the Gavitt Tipoff Games schedule include a national title game rematch between MI and Villanova on November 14 in Philadelphia along with Seton Hall playing at Nebraska and Marquette at in that day.

The teams will have significantly different looks after they met in the NCAA Tournament title game. Since its debut in 2015-16, there have been three ties in as many years. The three NIT squads are Marquette, Nebraska and Penn State. Those nine won at least 20 games last season.

Villanova and MI, the schools that battled for the national championship in San Antonio, Texas, will meet again on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Villanova.

Xavier beat the Badgers, 80-70, in the 2017 Gavitt Games in Madison.

The Gavitt Tip-off Games is part of the Huskers' non-conference slate which will also feature two games in Kansas City for the Hall of Fame Classic (Texas Tech, USC and Missouri State), a ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup (opponent and location TBD) as well as the annual matchup with Creighton. The series will span eight years, with games played at home sites. Each edition consists of eight games with a couple of teams from both conferences sitting out.

Played in honor of David Gavitt, the first commissioner of the Big East, this event is entering its fourth season.
