Gardai release statement regarding body found in Lucan

Body of female found in Lucan

Gardaí investigating the disappearence of missing 14 year old Anastasia Kriegel, have confirmed that they have found her body.

Gardaí said that the body of a female had been discovered on the Clonee Road in Lucan in Dublin at approximately 1pm.

She was last seen at the picturesque St Catherine's Park outside Lucan at around 5.30pm on Monday - around a kilometre from the farmhouse where her body was found three days later.

Searches are continuing to be carried out in the immediate area and State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is due to carry out an examination.

He called on anyone with information to contact Lucan Garda Station on 01-666-7300 or Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.

A first-year student at Confey Community College, Ana was described as a "striking teenager", who was well-known within her school and local community.

Supt Gordon said Ana's family are "receiving a lot of support from An Garda Siochana but they are extremely distressed".

"We believe the body to be that of Ana Kriegel".

"We are deeply saddened by Anastasia's death".

"They have another child in that house as well, so of course they have to be very careful around that".

When last seen she was wearing a black hoodie with white writing, black bottoms and black runners. Not communicating with her family was out of character entirely. "But that's part of the investigation".

Gardai immediately launched a search for the teenager.

During the searching the Garda Water Unit, including divers, had been drafted in to search parts of the nearby River Liffey and Royal Canal.
