Chevy Suburban gets the RST performance package

The Chevrolet Suburban RST Performance Package is an available upgrade for the Suburban RST.

Power is sent to a 10-speed automatic transmission-closely related to the unit found in the Chevy Camaro ZL1-instead of the 5.3's 6-speed. That, Chevy promises, makes for better use of the engine's power when you're accelerating.

What Stanczak refers to in his statement is Magnetic Ride Control, the active suspension that monitors the road every millisecond, making damping changes in the shock absorbers every five milliseconds. It's the same technology which allows the Escalade to various waft when cruising but corner with less body-roll. The new part for 2019 is the RST Performance Package, which is what slots in the bigger V-8. It's the first time the 6.2-liter has been offered for the Suburban.

Recall, the Suburban and Tahoe RST made their debuts past year, but the Performance package has only been available for the Tahoe RST. That, Chevrolet suggests, will mean that even though it's not exactly the smallest engine, it shouldn't be entirely profligate with fuel.

It's still a Suburban at heart, though, with three rows of space, a boatload of cargo capacity and a towing capacity of 8,100 pounds. While the RST package was available on 2018 Suburban models, it wasn't much more than an appearance package that added wheels and gloss black exterior accents. It has new exhaust tips that improve the flow of gas by 28-percent, which should have an impact both on performance and fuel consumption. The grille and mirror caps are gloss black, while the roof rails, window trim, and badging are all black. Look for it on dealership lots starting this summer. No word on pricing at this stage.

Chevrolet today announced the RST performance package for the 2019 Suburban, which includes a stronger V8 engine, upgraded suspension and a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The RST performance package first debuted on the Tahoe RST a year ago.

A high performance Brembo brake offer with reddish front calipers is optional, and the automobile is predicted to own a record evaluation of 8,100 lbs when it goes for the market.
